A Range Rover Sport was left stranded at a Repsol service station on the E80 between Palencia and Valladolid in Spain after an accident on the forecourt. The nearside rear wheel had been torn completely off the vehicle, the front wheel was broken, and the rear suspension was severely damaged.
What happened
The driver came off the E80 slip road at night and turned into the Repsol service station, not realising the forecourt was significantly higher than the slip road. The vehicle drove over the raised forecourt edge at speed, causing catastrophic damage to the underside and running gear.
The Range Rover ended up grounded on its rear hub with the wheel detached, unable to move in any direction. Standard Spanish recovery assistance couldn't transport a vehicle in that condition. That's when we were called.
Our recovery
We drove our Isuzu tilt-and-slide recovery truck directly from Oxford to the Spanish service station — a 1000+ mile trip in each direction. The Range Rover needed specialist loading due to the detached rear wheel and the damage to the underside of the vehicle.
Using the tilt-and-slide bed, we loaded the Range Rover with all four corners supported and no weight on the damaged rear suspension. The vehicle was secured for transport, then driven back through Spain and France, across the Channel, and delivered directly to the customer in London.
Total turnaround: 3.5 days, door to door.
Why specialist loading matters
A vehicle with a detached wheel can't be winched onto a standard flatbed without risking further damage. The broken suspension means the underside sits lower than usual, and any load on the damaged corner can cause the vehicle to shift during transit.
We loaded this one using the tilt bed, blocking the damaged corner and strapping at the chassis rather than the wheels. No additional damage during loading, transport, or unloading.
